WITH TOFU YOU CAN HAVE A QUICK LUNCH, GOOD MOOD AND YOU WILL ALSO LOSE WEIGHT! DON’T BELIEVE IT? READ ON!
You don’t have to be a vegan or a vegetarian to fancy something light, nutritious and plant-based. Tofu can relieve your mind and digestion and it is ready in literally a couple of minutes!
Did you know that Slovak tofu is one of the highest quality foods sold in our country? Slovaks can even boast first place in soya consumption per capita in all of Europe. It is eaten by young and old, seniors, children and pregnant women. “Studies to date on the effects of soya on our health show that both soya and tofu are foods suitable for everyday consumption. From a preventative point of view, it is appropriate for a person with a mixed diet to have a few ‘plant-only’ days a week,” says MUDr. Alexandra Frolkovičová, general practitioner and nutritionist. But that’s definitely not all!
TOFU AND A SLIM FIGURE
Quality tofu and other foods made from soya are great for losing weight and maintaining your ideal weight. Tofu has an extraordinarily good glycaemic index, which in practice means that the sugars contained in it are processed by our bodies gradually, which prolongs the feeling of fullness and prevents bouts of “wolfish hunger” or uncontrollable fatigue. “The great benefit of tofu, in addition to its balanced nutritional value, is its ease of digestion. So it’s great for an ordinary consumer, as well as a person who needs to lose a few kilos,” says Dr. Diana Ganajová.
In addition, clinical studies have shown the positive effect of soya on cholesterol levels. If you are looking for an effective way to get in shape before summer starts, have a light dinner consisting of a proven combination of fresh vegetables and tofu. You’ll get a good dose of protein, calcium, omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids and fibre. Tofu also contains B vitamins and minerals such as calcium, iron and magnesium.

FOR IMMUNITY AND A GOOD MOOD
“A lack of essential amino acids (the basic building blocks of protein) can have a negative impact on the body’s defences. In modern life, paradoxically, we often suffer the consequences of excessive protein intake, especially proteins of animal origin,” warns MUDr. Frolkovičová. Reducing meat and, conversely, increasing the share of plant-based foods significantly contributes to supporting immunity. This means sources of quality plant proteins, such as legumes, seeds, nuts or whole-grain forms of cereals. “Soya is a particularly complex source of essential amino acids, with an emphasis on tofu, the natural product from soya. Soya is also rich in arginine, which is an amino acid with a known immune effect,” adds A. Frolkovičová.
In addition to maintaining good health, a proper diet can significantly contribute to a good mood. For example, tofu also has all the prerequisites for that. “The isoflavonoids contained in tofu contribute to the improvement of concentration and memory and positively contribute to the improvement of brain functions,” claims MUDr. Ganajová. Scientific studies have clearly confirmed that these substances also help to improve mental well-being. So, do you have tofu in your fridge too?
